Hi
I noticed yesterday that my 6 year old mare has a mass in front of her right pupil. It runs along the entire length of the pupil, but her other eye is clear. There is no cloudiness in the eye, she is not squinting and does not seem bothered by it. I have tried researching this but can't really find anything other than a suggestion that it could be fibrin.

Any ideas and should I call the vet? Really worried about it!!

is it not just an equine iridic granule - dark round blobs in front of the pupil. normally in both eyes but not always. never met a horse without them.

Yes they are blobby things in front of the pupil. I thought they looked strange, so then checked her other eye - there weren't any and then I checked her companion's eyes and he didn't have any either, which then led to me Googling images of horses eyes and none of them had them or any mention of them which made me panic!! Lol, sorry I am obviously totally inept!!

I have just Googled equine iridic granules and still can't find any pics though!!

Ahhh they are also known as corpora nigra and they help filter out light going into the eye. Phew!! Strange that she only has them in one eye and her companion doesn't have any?!!

Try googling iris cyst. My mare has had one for years and they are normally harmless. They can be treated if they get too big I seem to recall.
