I’ll try and describe this the best I can so please bare with me.

Mr M seems to shave developed a bit of a strange habit, not sure if it’s some kind of stable vice.

He sort of dangles his head over the door twitches his nose quite a bit when waiting to come out of his stable in a morning, twists his nose /upper lip and bends right to the side (I could do you lovely impression but obviously you can’t see it over the net!), when I saw him doing it this morning I wondered what on earth he was doing, although noticed a bit of nose twitching on a few mornings but not quite to this extent.

I wondered if he had something tickling his nose or up his nostrils so I had a rummage with my fingers gently to see if there was any hay for example stuck up there or something, also checked his upper gum to see if there was anything in wedged between his front teeth and upper lip/gum area but that was clear too but I could hear a bit of a noise too, I thought at first he was grinding his teeth but it didn’t really sound like obvious teeth grinding, more like a sucking noise, then when I bobbed his head collar on he stopped doing it, only way I can describe it is as if he had an itchy gum.

He seemed fine in himself, content, ears forward, not like there was anything bugging him, just as if he was enjoying doing it.

Very strange, is this a common thing? A like bordom habit perhaps or some kind of mental issue!?

Iv seen afew horses do this out of boredom (though mostly it is sort of playing rather than boredom?!)
however on the flip side - a horse i know had half his nose fall off, they suspected he got a thorn in it, got infectedin the same sort of way a foot absess does...fell off!!!

:D I was wondering how long it would take before someone said that, valid point however I must say. lol

Maybe it's just his way of getting a bit unpatient, some horses kick doors, Mr M just pulls weird faces

hmmm, I'll see if I can get a video of him doing it tomorrow morning. :)

Good point, I'll have a really good look this evening just in case it is something like that, suppose it's like us getting splinter in our finger, he wasn't rubbing his nose on anything just really twitching round to the side.

My mare just pulls funny faces - usually an imaginative array of upper lip shapes!! Sometimes she appreciated a itchy scratch on her moustache, but generally it's her being a bit 'spechul'!!

Yeah maybe he’s just doing like what you say your mare is doing, he’s always got his nose in something fumbling about he’s always got to be up to something, perhaps he’s just entertaining himself, I did offer him a scratch on the of his nose but it didn’t make any difference but then he stopped once I led him out.

Really want to catch him doing it tomorrow now just so I can get it on my phone.

He’s finished his likit insert so I’ll have to get another to keep him occupied!
