Last wkend I noticed my filly had a few scabby lumps along one side of her neck, her wither, and side of belly (all the same side) - they are very small, you cant see them and dont affect the coat in any way - i only noticed whilst I was grooming her by running my hand over her coat. They are tiny little scabs - about the size of the end of a pencil. I groom my guys every night, however as this coincided with that bad rain we had and I hadnt been able to brush her for a couple of night I thought maybe she has a touch of rain scald. Admittedly, I've never had a horse with rain scald, and it certainly didnt look 'typical'. So in she came at night (unrugged, she had also been unrugged and out 24/7 up until that point) and out during the day with a rain sheet. I couldn't leave her in during the day as she does turn into a neurotic mad horse and works herself up into a total stress if I do!

Anyway, I've been keeping an eye on it and it seems to be gradually getting worse, appearing elsewhere on her body, so now its on her quarters, shoulders, the other side of her neck, and then saturday morning, out of no-where she had the same scabby lumps around her muzzle, although a bit bigger. They dont seem to be causing her any discomfort, there is no itching/scratching, but if any thing she loves having them scratched (absolute bliss)!! They dont appear to be weeping, no tufts of hair coming out, stood out or anything, her coat is in its usual condition for this time of year, which is very sleek, healthy looking and very soft, not exessively greasy.

So I'm totally baffled as to what it is, its not something she's had before nor have I come across in the all years I've had horses. They have moved yards, 7 weeks ago. There has been no change to her diet, she is on a high fibre diet - sugar beet, alfalfa, hay and !grass!, and cortaflex, but she has been on this diet all summer. The only change would be different hay, but this was introduced gradually and why a problem 6-7 weeks down the line? So if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear - vet will probably be coming out on Monday/tuesday when I am off work....

Would like to see a picture of them. My TB comes up in lumps as he is allergic to a lot of things. Usually happens when I re-introduce hay - but it is a delayed reaction - usually 3 days after. I think 6-7 weeks after feeding it would not cause this, but can't be sure. He has the same diet as her because he is cereal intolerant.
