Good morning everyone,
Thank you all for your responses to my posts, its been very helpful and reassuring to 'speak' to all of you and know your thoughts.
I am pleased to report that Danny had a quiet night, I gave him another bute at tea time and all was well.
This morning he is totally fine in himself - whinnying over the door as I walked up to his stable, he seems nice and bright - I did see him cow kick just a couple of times in the hour I was with him - so have given him one more sachet of bute and popped him out in the field - where he cantered off with his field companion.
I am again popping back at lunch time to check up on him - and if all is well will leave off giving him any more bute until tea time.
Just a quick question about IBD - would a blood test not show low protein in his blood? Just wondering as all blood tests provide a normal result?
I am going to give the vets a call this morning and ask about the gut tissue biopsy - as this sounds very interesting and if I can (without too much prodding around for the old chap) find out what is wrong then i most definately want to know what is upsetting his tum.
I was thinking about this last night, and realised that each time he has had an episode of colic, he has been on the same area of my field. (I rotate the grazing by electric fencing quite reguarly) the area he is on at the moment is now pretty much bare - but it is within part of the field which is fertilised each spring for hay making. I am going to move him into a small area of the field which has been well grazed down, but has not been fertilised for a few years - just to see if this makes a difference to him - I really dont think that this has been brought on by the grass - as there really isnt much in that area at all now and he has been on this area of paddock for about 2 months - but its just something which occured to me last night so I figured it is worth trying him on an area which has quite dry short non rich grass.
Even moving his field fills me with panic - but I guess that dryer short grass going through him is better than practically nothing going through him from a bare field - esp if he is colicy due to excess stomach acid?
What do you all think?
many thanks again, I do appreciate all your replys.
