This morning my rising 2 yr old filly has a swelling running forward from just in front of her teats, to about 3 inches infront of her belly button. It's about a palm width wide and isn't warm or tender to touch, but is hanging down about 2.5 inches and is flabby (not hard like an oedema). Around the old umbilicus is a splattering of black speckly crusts. Nothing much, but obviously something has been weeping. Horse is 100% fine in all respects, apart from this and it has popped up over night. Anyone else ever had this? I am mystified.

My old boy got a swelling similar to that on his chest a few months back - it was really weird all hanging and flabby !!

It reduced every time he was exercised and then totally went after a particularly energetic hack!!

Lots of people on my yard had a prod and poke and decided it was some kind of fluid - but it went as mysteriously as it came and hasn't come back since.

Weird!

Hope it's nothing.........

Vet came out and it's nothing more serious than..... FLY BITES! Ho hum. Blinking early in the year to be slapping on the fly lotion, but I guess I'd better get stocked up

Ooh that's interesting !

My boy has got a really sore itchy weepy tail and we're wondering if he's suddenly developed sweet itch! Maybe it is because the midges are out early this year !

Glad she's ok - they like to give us a fright every now and again, just to keep us on our toes!!
