My new rescue basset hound is fit and healthy in every way apart from strange vomiting.
When he first gets up in the morning he is sick only a small amount but its as soon as gets up! also if he drinks allot of water he is sick.
He only usually brings up bile when ever he is sick so theres not much food coming up.
He is livley and eating, poo's fine good coat but just this one problem with being sick.
Also not stressed as hes a very laid back dog and has really settled in well apart from hes not keen on horses

I am thinking of giving some bio yohurt he is also fed low protien, low fat food.
Any ideas please?

Don't worry this is quite normal.

If your dog had access to grass he would eat it and purge his tummy. It goes back to when they were wild and if any bones were left in the tummy then they would be brought up with the eccess bile and grass.

Before he gets up in the morning let him have 3-6 rich tea biscuits. Having brekkie in bed soaks up the bile and should prevent him from being sick.

Do you feed him in the evening. I found if I feed my dogs in the evening about 6pmish it stops them being sick 1st thing in the morning

I will try the dry biscuit thing in the morning, in all my years i have never had a dog that is sick like this neither have any of my friends. Didnt realise it was a common thing. thanks

Could also be because he's taking in too much air as he drinks or eats try a raised drinking/feed bowl - it also helps to prevent dogs getting colic

interesting .... most kennels do have their bowls raised of the ground ....perhsps this needs to more widely known about. My own breed is not prone to this condition but a friend who breeds Great Danes ( V susceptible apparently) swears that a raised bowl prevents dogs from gulping air when they eat/drink.

Thanks very much for this link i lost a dog to bloat only 2 months ago and it was devastating. Everyone should be aware of it and what can cause it.
