I'm really hoping someone may be able to help. I have spoken with the vet who is at a loss and considering sending the surgeon to take a look but nothing booked in as of yet.
In December my Welsh D 5yo gelding had what i thought was a girth sore on his girth line. I gave him a couple of months off work to heal up (and because the weather was shocking) and kept an eye on it. It's so strange, as you can see from the picture this stalk like scab is growing away from the sore. It doesn't appear to be causing my gelding any pain, but it's so strange!
Any insight is please welcome.F3DF0924-2BC3-47E4-A5A3-B4B1318222EF.jpeg

It kind of looks like the scab is caking the hair and that's why it looks stalk like. Have you tried (gently!) pulling at it to see if it falls off?

The short answer is...no idea!

is it a sarcoid/ lump that’s secreting a lot of sebum that’s collecting and hardening, going with the direction of the fur? I haven’t seen anything like this but have seen scabs on my greasy cob’s legs create some funky shapes?
