Bought my horse in today and noticed a lump larger than a £2 coin but smaller than an egg on her chest just below where the rug buckles are. She was clipped last week and didn't have it then, nor did i notice it Wednesday when i brought her in for a groom........i inspected it closer and noticed a scabby bit, which came off in my hand when i touched it. There is a very fleshy wound - by fleshy i mean pink a pale pink in colour flesh under her skin if that makes sense? quite raw looking - the actual raw/bit under scab is small, it looks strange, like a tear more than a rub or bite. I put some antiseptic spray and cream on it, it looked very clean - not bloody or pussy etc. The swelling looked to have gone a bit after i had cleaned it off with some warm water and cotton wool.......it does seem a bit tender but only when i was cleaning it out. Popped her rug back on and it doesn't seem to be rubbing the wound as its lower down where the buckles sit.
Shes fine in her self, just looked a bit alarming.
Will keep eye on it and if it still looks swollen/gets infected etc i will give the vet a call.

Any one else had a strange wound like this??
Will try get a pic of it tomorrow.

Are you sure it's not an ingrown hair? Sounds just like one to me... or a thorn where she may have leant over a bush/hedge... I would use an anti rub bib. If not buckle, the piping on the edges of rugs I have seen rub a pony raw when clipped..

Sounds infected so it might be worth antiseptic cream. If it gets any hotter or bigger, I'm afraid a/b's are needed unless it pops and you can clean it out. Had this before in same place years ago... it's particularly common in horses with thicker coats.

(p.s. also common in some ladies just after bikini wax if wrong knickers are worn :D:D:D:D not by personal experience mind you... just what I've been told!!!!! is that too much info on a sunday morning???)

Bib sounds like a good idea - i have one in the shed so will dig it out today.
Yes i put an antiseptic cream and spray on it, looks very clean. Not sure if it looks like a rub though.....more of a tear if that makes sense? will get a few pics of it later.
It did look like a big spot but when i pressed it no juices came out? (sorry sounds horrible!! )
