EVERY THING IS POSSIBLE
Just been informed that there may be strangles in my yard at work , not the yard where I keep missy but another yard . I have found this out through someone else , it all makes sense now that the horse that "supposedly " had a cold could have possibly have had strangles , I havent been in contact with this horse for several weeks now , is there a chance that I could have passed this onto missy . Everything is up in the air at the minute with regards to which horse has it , There is one that just the left a yard that was supposedly on trial and it has been sent back , the person that told me is at this yard where the pony is now ( all very confusing I know ) BUT ... My main query is Do I need to get her checked ? is there a vaccination ? Im really worried now to be honest , Shes only got herself right from tendon injury and plus shes getting her booster on wednesday , will this affect her ??

Sorry for all the questions Im really quite worried , AND really quite angry that my boss didnt tell me even if he suspected strangles

If you have been in contact with the horse's snot then yes you could have passed it on.

I believe the Strangles vaccination (joke!) has been withdrawn from the market at this present time. There is not a lot you can do but sit and wait it out I'm afraid.

Your boss is extreemly out of order for not letting you know as soon as strangles was suspected. Yes you can pass it on but the symptoms usually show 3 - 14 days after contact. I would wait an see whether Missy shows any symptoms and as soon as she does get her checked out sooner rather than later. There is a vacine but it doesnt mean they wont get it. It is supposed to make the symptoms less harsh. Thats my understanding of it.

Then no. I believe you have to actually be in direct contact with the excretions to carry the infection. Just keep away from that yard for the time-being otherwise you could spread it around in no time.
