Hi, my pony is on loan, due to change loan homes, new people needed a strangles test, came back as 0.3. Plan was to retest in 2 weeks.
However current loan have new pony due Sunday so want me to move him today. Am I right in thinking no one should enter or leave yard during this 2 weeks?
is it safe to move him? Our yard has no stables only turnout where they live as a heard.
Xx

With the blood test you need to know whether the antibody level is stable, falling or rising over a 2 week period to know where you are in the strangled cycle. Falling means the horse is past the infection & just has the antibodies lingering in its blood - they can take months to go. The best thing everyone involved can do is talk to the vet. A lot will depend on whether suitable quarantine facilities are available at the various yards. If they don't plan taking the new pony anywhere in the next two weeks they run a risk of it picking up strangled but really it's their call (provided they own the new pony).
