Strangles in Devon

for info there is a confirmed case of strangles in the Torquay area.

From what YO has told me the affected yard is under strict quarantine etc as it should but still a warning for those in the area to perhaps be a little more careful around strange horses than normal.

So sorry for anyone getting it on their yard, it puts a halt to everything and its probably not their fault

agree entirely. Sadly outbreaks are normally due to non symptom showing carriers or careless individuals who will bring a knowingly contagious horse into contact with other horses though they are thankfully rare. It sadly though happened to a friend about 18 months ago and by the time they were aware it was too late. Thankfully although was a close call with one horse all 4 horses concerned including the original carrier pulled through.

Thankfully though most yards are responsible and will inform others to help prevent the further spread.

Thanks, but nothing from here will be going anywhere until we discover what's causing our own foals to get sick..
With any luck if most shows are cancelled the strangles in Torquay should be contained.
