Hi!
I am a new horse owner and i am on a livery yard. It has been announced that two neighbouring yards have suspected cases of strangles (one is confirmed)
I am doing all i can to prevent my horse from getting it but i am struggling to ride.
In order to ride anywhere i have to pass the entrance of one of the yards. One of the entrances is very close however the other is a lane thats around half a mile long with the yard at the end of it.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to do or whether its worth not riding at all? Any advice would be really useful!

I would say as long as the horses at the other yards have stopped hacking out and your not going to be in contact with any horses from those yards you should be ok. Keep as much of a gap between you and the yard entrances as possible to be safe (make sure your on the opposite side of the lane kind of thing). If you wanted to be overly careful you could put a rug down by the entrance to your yard with disinfectant on it and walk the horse over it to make sure you don't bring anything back into the yard with you. I've also used shampoo on my horse that targets strangles germs so that could be another good precautionary measure. I think it was called clean round xx
