Hiya guys.....

Does anybody know anything more bout the strangles case in Westbury in Glos.
I know that a horse was brought in to Westbury with the virus, but I know no more.
My friend lives 1mile away from the outbreak and at my C Test ( I PASSED!) she was there and obviously the virus could have been spread

to me and others
So all the PC Rallies have been cancelled and I have C+Training tonight and we cannot wear riding clothes etc.

I am soooo worried about my ponies as one is a 31yr companion ponywho may be very ill

I hope they dont have it!

I wouldn't worry too much, strangles isn't going to get carried one mile on the air. It is passed on by direct or indirect contact, like the horse coming into direct contact or sharing troughs/buckets/stables etc, or by leaving the virus on surfaces such as wood that another horse then contacts directly, or from the contaminated clothes of people passing between horses.

If you can rule out incidences such as these you should have nothing to worry about. It is sensible to avoid taking your horse out while there is strangles in the area though, and if you have concerns you might start to monitor your horse's temperature.

I'm sure you will be fine. Strangles can spread rapidly through a yard but across yards it will only spread if there is a physical link.
