As above, pony has been tested and first sample negative for strangles, glands seem up a little but not very obvious, eating and drinking and rather bored in isolation box rest, she is 6. Can strangles present like this, I would have expected to see more progression after nearly a week, but if anything she seems better than she was?

Not all will get full blown strangles many have some symptoms and shake it off with little intervention other than some nursing care, she may just have a virus, the glands will be up while they are working to deal with it, as she tested negative unless there is a real reason for strangles to be suspected the chances are it is a respiratory infection or virus that would benefit more from being turned out in the fresh air, although I appreciate if you are on a livery yard that may be impossible.

Thanks for your replies. She is at home and we are going to create a turnout area so she can be outside. I am taking her out for walks every few hours. That's interesting about the temperature-it has never been up even the day she looked really ill and when the vet came she checked it, by which time the nose was discharging yellow gunk, which lasted a day or two and is now clear to milky.
