Best thing you can do is get a rigorous hygiene procedure in place. Don't allow anyone to handle your horses, wash your hands before and after you do your horse, foot wash etc. It's very preventable on a yard of 20+ horse my mare was the only one to have it as we were very strict with hygiene. The best person for advice is your vet. They should be happy to give you advice over the phone.
