Pony has suspected strangles, hopefully results come back tomorrow. Swelling came up overnight Wednesday to the size of a grapefruit and her temperature was still 39 on Thursday. She's been on penicillin and bute since Thurs, but so far the swelling looks the same. She's eating ok now, her mouth seems less sore and she and seems bright but the lump is still very large and hard. Very little pus is draining now despite regular warm cloths and squeezing. I'll be phoning the vet tomorrow anyway but I wondered if the lump should have subsided a bit by now?

Takes a few weeks for it all to heal up - if you look in new lounge there is a pic of my 4 yr old - she got strangles as a yearling (picked it up at a county show

She had several abscesses on her face and a few on her neck (where it joins the head) - none left a mark (thankfully!)
