My boy is due his strangles vac, but my vet told me that it has been withdrawn for now. I remember reading ages ago in HH about this. Is it a nationwide withdrawal of the vac and is it for all manufacturers of it?

I believe so. They had problems with this vaccination so had to withdraw it. Mind you I'm not surprised.

Tia, why no surprise?

I heard the co saying something like they will help owners once it becomes available again does that mean the vaccine will be free?

Because it was an ineffective vaccine at stopping horses from contracting Strangles.....and in fact was found to actually GIVE some horses Strangles.

the company that make it withdrew it from the market due to safety issues I think! Anyway not back on the market yet! Intervet were the only ones with a strangles vaccine so there are none available at the mo!

Actually Carthorse, you do have a very valid point there.....perhaps it would be worth getting in touch with them?
