Hi
I’m on a yard which has a lot of comings and goings (no quarantine). I’m thinking about the strangles vaccine, has anyones horse had it? I know it’s not 100% effective but thought it could be worth a try? Thanks

The horses at a yard I do a bit of work for all had one a few months ago. No side effects or problems. They have lots of horses coming and going so I think the long term ones were given it.

Having recently dealt with a strangles outbreak (new horse had a false negative test) I was interested to hear a new, more effective vaccine should be released soon according to my vet and isn't into the lip. It was originally due for release in June but has been delayed slightly, I'm waiting for an update.

My friend works for the company that is manufacturing/selling it.
Sounds like it is dues out in the next few weeks.
And as you say, not into the lip.

It's out now and I am also want to know your views of it. Its Intervacc that manufactures it and I think its Dechra that distributes it. Two shoots a month apart then a yearly booster and it said to be 94% effective, no vaccine is 100%? Similar to the covid vaccine or any other vaccine but this one a modern vaccine and is not a living virus. It's a synthesised vaccine so there should be no side effects of it.
