I was just wondering how long after the last shown symptoms should you start the swabbing?

We have had it on our yard. It has not long cleared up and we are starting swabbing. However I have been told it should be 6 weeks.

My horse has not had it but want to get him cleared anyway as it was a very very mild case and not all of them showed symptoms. I compete a lot so want to be sure he is clear. I have the option to get him done tomorrow, but dont want to waste £30 if I am supposed to leave it longer.

So what is the usual gap between last symptoms and swabbing?

Personally I thought it was 2, but I was told otherwise this morning

it is 14 days from the last signs but the infected horses must not have open wounds either which might be where the confusion is coming from.

We were clear on symptoms at 14days but my horse still had open wound from abcess so vet wouldnt start swabbing until it was closed.

I personally from my experience wouldnt use swabs anyway as my horse was not showing positive on the swabs but he clearly had strangles. In the end in stead of 3 sets of swabs i took him for a scope and that cleared him straight away which was lovely

As far as I am aware only 1 of the horses had an abcess and that is cleared now. I did think it was 2 weeks, I just got very confused when this morning someone told me it was 6 weeks.
