A horse I am interested in buying had strangles 3 years ago, but the owner said he recovered well and has never had any problems since.

Is there anything I should take into account regarding this, before I make a decision in buying? (Obviously I will have a vetting)

Thank you!! :)

When I moved yard I had to have a strangles blood test, it came back positive & then you have to have a gutteral pouch test to see if the horse is a carrier or just has anti-bodies against the illness (apparently they have anti-bodies for up to 5 years after having strangles) obviously if they have the anti-bodies it's a good thing as they won't get it that bad a if they caught it again but sometimes a horse can become a carrier of strangles & can 'shed' & pass it on to other horses but never actually get it themselves & this is very hard for a vet to get rid of..
