I have just had my mare's swab report returned from the vet. She has swabbed clear for Strangles - Streptococcus Equi. However, she shows as having Streptococcus Equisimilis? Research online has shown that this appears in pigs!!?
Can anyone help explain this??

We had a horse that came from a dealer come down with this within a few days of being at our yard, she passed it onto the pony in the next stable.
The vet came down and swabbed for strangles but it was what you said, apparently its a bug that imitates strangles but is'nt as bad and cant be fatal. They were put in isolation and given some liquid antibiotic as the powders dont kill all the bugs. They recovered within a couple of weeks.

Thanks Berry! The strange thing is that my mare doesn't have any symptoms and is perfectly healthy - she was only swabbed as a precaution before takin her to stud!
I will speak with my vet first thing in the morning, but you have helped put my mind at ease...
