It's considered to be quite "old-fashioned" now, but I strap Ali every time after I ride/lunge him and I can certainly notice the results... So who else straps their horse?
I made a wisp not that long ago to strap with - but one of the ponies ate it! I love to give a really thorough groom, it tones and conditions. I don't ''strap' as such but am thorough and you do notice the difference compared to a 'quick flick'. I am on the look out for a leather pad - I have a wool one at the 'mo but it is not quite the same.

To make a wisp you need to twist a length of damp hay/straw tightly to a length of about 6 -8ft long. Make two loops at one end of the rope then twist each loop in turn over the reminding length of rope. Secure at the end. Then make the wisp damp. Its purpose is top romote muscle tone, stimulating blood supply. Use it by slapping the muscles building up the number of slaps over a period of time. Good for on the neck and quarters. Very old fashioned, but these days you can get leather covered pads instead.
My daughter straps our horse after every session, it only takes a few minutes & it makes a real diference. I can't understand the 'I don't have the time' people, it only takes a couple of minutes?
i strap my ponies in show season and the run up to show season twice a day every day. takes a few minutes and realy can make a differance to ponies topline.
i strap every evening- wether they have been worked or not.
my strapping pad was my mums- so it's about 30 years old, and is still lovely and firm- it's not packed down and gone solid, and i thought it would.
