My friend and I are part loaning a lovely boy who is bedded on straw. Usually when we go up to the yard we do a full muck out and throw back the bed to dry, and owner makes the bed later on before bring in.
Today though, due to some lovely new straw we've found, I only had to skip out and then add a bit more... I'd forgotten JUST how satisfying it is to lay a nice deep straw bed, make the banks etc :D Loved it!

Even better I then brought boyo in and we just hung out in the stable for a couple of hours - he munched his hay and occasionally nuzzled my head and kissed me, I groomed him and scratched his itchy bits and hugged him and painted his toes and plaited his tail... Happy Days :D

I don't usually do soppy but I thought your post was very sweet. Just what it's all about ay!? :)

Isn't it just! Some much needed horsey therapy :) I love riding, but I love just talking rubbish to the boyo and hugging his bum, and the faces he pulls when I scratch the current 'sweet spot', and him eating my hair and giving me pony snogs - just hanging out! Best way to form a bond in my limited experience :D

I'm 33yo btw, I really should have got over the need to plait tails for fun by now, but its just so therapeutic! Turned him out with a spangly red bobble in his tail to match his red turnout lol! :D

I've always thought that riding is just a bonus, much as I love it. These huge half ton prey animals let us pick their feet up, scritch at their mud fever scabs, hug their bums, sit on their backs.... I bloody love horses! Boyo is brilliant, can't wait till summer to try jumping him!

Love how his owner has mentioned that he behaves better for me than for her :D I reckon it's coz I like Micheal Peace's approach of 50/50 relationship! I insist on him trusting and respecting me, but I also trust and respect him, and when the decision is his - ie uneven ground, then I give him a v loose rein and trust him! He way v bargey at first too - done lots of in hand aaand stand, good boy, aand back up one, good boy, aaand walk on! and stand etc etc loving the Boyo! :D
