Straw beds ..... how deep?

I do the same - about a fork heads depth which roughly works out to be about a foot deep. Mine are all heavy sleepers so I need the bed to be comfy

and not move around too much underneath them.

fork-depth here to.
the deeper the bed the cleaner it seems.
i started my bed off with 8 small bales and add 1 about every 5 days.

Ours are at least a forks depth too. Like you the_griswolds I find the deeper the bed the cleaner the bed and the horses stay on it. We muck out totally each day and top up with plenty of replacement straw each time.

Same here, about a foot, but it still doesn't make my horse want to lie down... or stop box walking... I put a new bale in every other time she stays in (she's out most of the time and only comes in on the odd occasion that the weather is absolutely foul). She also has rubber mats underneath and currently also a layer of shavings!

at least a fork head if I was doing a straw bed, D is on mats and wood pellets at the mo. I really hate seeing people who have skimped on bedding and their horse is standing on the concrete after they've walked around for a bit.
