straw or shavings or matting????

ive just put a new wooden floor in my trailer and was wondering
rather than the cost of buying rubber matting could i just put down a good layer of straw or sawdust??
i remember when we were kids dad only ever used straw in his trailers then sweep it up after the journey.
what are the thoughts on doing this today???

I find this makes it slippery. My mare travelled better when she was standing on rubber with just a sprinkling of shavings at the back of her to absorb the wee and poo.

Can't beat mats and a few chippings to absorb wet if long journey : )

I would think the floor would last a lot longer with rubber mats.
