We currently use wood pellet bedding, but at Your Horse Live saw some straw pellet bedding from a different company which looked really nice, so intended to try the straw pellets next time we needed to order some more.

On the leaflet it says "unpalatable to animals" - but on the website it says that some may eat it!

I was just wondering if any of your horses had attempted to eat the straw pellet bedding before we go out to buy some - one sees everything as a potential meal so I'm a bit worried about finding an empty stable & a poorly horse the morning after putting it down!
There are two kinds, "Miscanthus" or "Wheat/Rape straw". Would be great to hear some experiences with either.

Thank you in advance x

There is a good thread in Stable? on this subject. Think Oberon started it as made the move from wood pellets to straw. From what I can remember (thread has gotten rather large) started out well but then found that the straw pellets clump really badly and difficult to work with / muck out.

Not sure if any thing has been posted about horses eating the pellets though.

Sorry can't be of more help

Now how did I miss that one!! Thank you, that thread is really helpful! x

I'll be ordering some LWP soon;)

No issues with eating them. Obi stuck his nose straight in and had a sniff, but decided against it.

They have a chemical smell in the first instance, so don't seem palatable at all.

The only reason I tried them (I was happy with wood pellets) is because I had heard they'd last longer than wood pellets, but I've almost run out now, so they don't.
