My boxer seems to have a pre-disposition to Irritable bowel when he's stressed.

I'm back to the vet with him tomorrow cause there is some blood (few drops) in his loose stool that i'm not happy with.

he's had something similar a few months ago after a period of stress when we were on holiday and then i had to go away on business.

We sadly lost my F-I-L on Christmas day and the dog seems to be picking up on the stress in the house

Does anyone else have a dog with irritable bowel? if so how do you manage them - different diet/ supplements?

When I brought my puppy home she was loose for a week or so with blood - breeder said it was stress. Went to vet when it hadnt cleared up after 2 weeks (trying to see if it settled & give her a chance) & we changed her food to what he recommended not what the breeder gave us & was an improvement but still varied drastically day to day but least it wasnt consistently like water like before & was minus the blood. So back we went.He gave her a 2 week course of antibiotics & buscopan (for human IBS) to help her system settle, all was well until 3 weeks later she had some new treats & its all started again minus the blood.

So vet said to change her diet as its suspected colitus. She was on Wainrights puppy which was recommended by him in the first place as its very good, but she's now on James wellbeloved turkey & rice puppy, strictly nothing else bar her mini jacks for treats - also James wellbeloved & raw hide chews as he said it pure. Both food & treats are wheat free, beef free & hypoallergenic etc. She previously had an array of puppy treats. After 2 or 3 days she settled onto the food (can take upto 6 weeks) & last 5 days she's been totally normal & we're over the moon! Vet thinks intolerance to wheat or beef as is common. So she's strictly on that for a few months then we can start introducing other treats etc very slowly to see if she's grown out of it, if not no biggy.

We've had her since 1st Oct at 7 weeks & only the last week we've sorted it.

I'd try same as us, the hypoallergenic food but obviously ask vet first even if just over the phone.

Don't know if that's any help but good luck!!!!

just a quicky on feed...my boy came to me on Wainrights but we've since moved on to Autarky-is holistic & virtually same as arden grange & royal canin but only 18 for 15kgs...original owners brought him up on curry & spa bol:mad: idiots plus his breed is prone to sensitive tums and he is very stressy/anxiety fear etc..you could also try a Thundershirt for times of stress, email caroline dunn her website is mind your dog.co.uk she offers 100% money back if it doesn't work.not only for stress but also fireworks etc & calming too. carrots and rice are great calmers too. Good books in the Holistic dog care section on amazon...will repost with title if you stuck of excellent one I got for birthday covers everything..hope he's ok x
