I have a six year old warmblood jumping mare who via scintigraphy and x rays has been diagnosed with a number of stress fractures in her hind fetlocks, hocks, pasterns, and tibias! She had suddenly gone lame about 4 weeks ago and had been on box rest ever since. Her symptoms only presented when she was ridden. I know this is a relatively common racehorse problem but my vet was surprised to find it in a jumping horse. The overall prognosis for return to full work is good assuming the fractures heal as they should. What concerns me though is the likelihood of reoccurrence and if there is anything anyone could recommend to strengthen her bones. Has anyone out there got any experience of this?
