Just moved my 3 horses to their winter grazing yesterday. They spent last night and most of today out in their lovely 4 acre field with plenty of grass.
Sorted out the stable today for the TB, with another 2 horses opposite she could see, thought with the weather getting cold (icy today) she would be better in at night. Bought her in and immediately she became stressy, rearing thrashing about, calling to her field mates, trashed her bed and this was within 30 seconds, would not stand still long enough for me to take off her headcollar! so out she came, ties her on the yard only to discover an 8inch long thin gash on her face - luckily its only taken the fur off and theres no blood or cut as such, just skin  christ knows how she done it in a stable with no sharp edges all in about 30 seconds  needless to say she was turned back out with the others as not prepared for lots of injurys with an accident prone TB
Currently out with the cobs on a cold frosty night - wrapped up warm with grass (they haven't touched their hay and they showed little interest in their dinner) grass must be too good! ;)
If shes happy living out then it suits me fine :D
oh well i tried

Anyone else have a stress head??

i tried mine in for a few hours a couple of winters ago as i felt sorry for her in the rain etc - just enough time to go tesco shopping locally so she could dry off and eat hay with friends - came back to find stable door "opened" and her back at her field  she's lived out 24/7 365 ever since!

My wee TB mare would be exactly the same in on her own. I bring my donkey in with her (next stable) which keeps her sane. Have to say though if it didnt work, I would happily let her live out 24/7 with the rest of them;)

Pah!
My fuzzy arrived in very October last year & had not been stabled at previous place for the 3 yrs there.
Not keen to be stabled last winter with me, but put up with it overnight after the heavy snow arrived.....

This winter? Tries to mow me down when I arrive in the afternoon - then tries to drag me up the yard so can get into stable :D Once in, will not come out - have tried leaving door open on occasions - will only emerge for breakfast :D

My mare loved her stable until bonfire night :(
I tried her the night before last but she just span round until I put her back out in the gale force winds and driving rain that she used to have tantrums about.
Oh well the less time I have to spend

Oops silly phone posted at the wrong time.
**The less time and money I have to spend on mucking out and shavings the more I can spend on grooming and yummy hay.

She clearly knows where she is happiest :D

Everyone has such a stigma about tbs being pathetic/having bad feet yadda yadda yadda - most of it is the label we attach to them and then teach them/ feed them/ train them to become like the label. Chuck her out and let her be a horse!

Yep my TB goes loopy without a companion right next to him too. We are just happy to cater to his whims though! He loves his stable overnight but by the morning is hopping about ready to go out for the day. Guess they're all indiviuals and just have to go with what suits yours best, glad her injury was no worse .

Yep, I have a stresshead too, she's only 38" tall, fortunately I have no intention of even trying to stable her, bringing her in to wait for the farrier is bad enough!

She'll try to come over the stall wall if she isn't tied up, she is 20 years old!

I'm sure your mare will be fine out if that's what she would prefer. Less mucking out for you for a start :)

My warmblood can't bear it either gets very stressy. She lives out with the Welsh A with a big shelter, she will barely go in that either unless I put her feed or hay in there! Welshie on the other hand has taken up residence in the shelter and seems quite happy in there! His cute little face peers out round the side of the shelter at breakfast time bless him!

This is the same as my mare (although she'd never actually admit to liking her stable!) First year it took 4 people all with brooms to get her in and then me climbing over the stable door to get out!! she was a nightmare.

Now she secretly loves going in and eating her hay while watching the rain - but she'll still turn stress head and trash her bed fairly often just to keep me on my toes :)

Yup, me, whos massive straw beds werent big enough if you could see my mares knees, rugged and tucked up nice and warm with her tea before i could think of getting home to feed myself, Somehow acquired a nutty TB who is a boxwalker and weaver! Lol

He put up with being stabled last winter but wasnt happy about it, used to go to the top of the field at bringing in time, and drag me out every morning. He is now out 24/7 rugged with hay and seems very happy about it, doesnt give two hoots about being by himself either. Comes to call everytime whether i have a saddle in my arms or a feed bucket. as long as i dont stable him he is happy to come out and work and put up with my fussing xD

Hopefully putting a shelter up for him, but doubt he will use it, he is an exracer and so i reckon he has spent enough time being stabled, even though i feel rotten for leaving him out on a wet cold day! at least the shelter will make me feel better! :p

I think you're right on making up the time spent stabled, iv got two ex racers in my fields living out and I quite often see them just charging about for the hell of it just because they can. In stables they wove/cribbit/got snappy over the doors etc but out they are lovely - although my mare thinks theyre a bit cracked running about like loons :D
