Does anyone feel they spend all their time being dictated to by 1 other livery?......
I am on a small yard with owners horses and 3 liveries! I share a field with 1 if the liveries and our stables are on a separate bit of the yard within a barn! Last year the other livery refused to bring her horse in until January. This year she want her in earlier as she lost weight. Now she has decided she wants her back out at the weekend?? I can't keep my mare in on her own as she be on her own in this barn! I don't think it's fair on them to chuck them back out yet when they have been in since November and the weather is still horrible! A few weeks ago I had to go and get them in during my lunch break as she decided she didn't want them out past 2.30 ! I just find it stressful that I have to do exactly as this other livery wishes rather than what I would like to do with my horse! Although I do understand the other livery does not want to do what I want to do with my we both want what's best for our horses I suppose but I always feel like I have to go along with what she wants all the time! It's very hard work. I love the yard my horse is settled and looks the best she ever has in the last 10 years I've had her :)! So would you just go along with the other livery or how could we reach a compromise......
Thanks for listening x

Have you tried speaking to her? I find that if you actually talk to the person you are having problems with, 9 times out of 10 it could be sorted. Is she really aware of how you are feeling? Dont beat around the bush with her, tell her honestly how you are feeling and you may be able to both come up with a compromise.

Try asking the lady about this and the other liveries if they want there horses out if not joy ask the owner if your horse could go with her's. Sad to say but this is common on yards and does cause upset to people who just want a quite life to love their horses and be happy. Let us now how you get on hun. :)

Im potentially going to be in the same position and Im dreading it.
What would happen if you said 'no'. Would the other livery still put there horse out and leave it out on its own? Maybe she knows you will just follow whatever she wants, so just does whatever she wants. I'd be tempted to call her bluff and say 'no Im not putting my horse out yet' and see what she does then.

Yeah her horse will be totally fine on it's own mines the stressy moo ! The YO and another livery leave out and have been out all winter! Think it's worse for ones who've been coming in and got in the routine than ones who've been happily living out up until now! Wil have to speak to her as we r only in January and I'm sure worse weather is yet to come:mad:

I understand your pain. I really do. Been there.... done that!

But ultimately it's your horse dictating your actions. If she would stand in on her own quietly, then you wouldn't have to precisely follow the routine of this other girl. If your horse needs company standing in you need to find another livery that matches the routine you want/need to follow - perhaps another livery with a horse that wont stay in on its own. Don't expect this other girl to alter her [rather chaotic] winter routine for you. It's not her problem; she's just another paying livery.

Just a suggestion, couldnt YO have the barn stable with the other livery who keeps her horse out all year and you have YO stable?

I have spoken to her she said she 'will be putting out soon but not yet'. This is my first full year at this yard and all my previous yards the horses have brought in November time and turned out march/April time. I have never been on a yard before that allows all year turn out and even has the grazing available to allow it! I think next year will require forward planning and discussion with other livery what her plans are and may even require a stable swap as already suggested :).
