Decided to go even though I was the first one in at 8.30am. I rang the venue yesterday to see if school would be ok and they said they would try everything they can to unfreeze it.
So got to the yard at 6.30, got Gyp ready to go, hitched the Touareg to the trailer and found out the light plug doesn't fit, it has the European socket on it. So I flew home to pick up the Shogun, threw all the stuff out the Touareg into the shogun, hitched up and loaded Gyp then left, 20 mins late.
Got to the place at 8am.
Had a look at the schools and decided it would just about be ok, as I was only doing a walk and trot test. Started to warm up and had the usual muppets about, then a horse came in that double barrelled at us, no red ribbon and I had given them plenty of room as Gyp gets nervous of horses that are too close. So I took Gyp out of there as he was getting very worried about this horse. After I left it was rearing, spining and going sideways so just as well that I left really. It was then my time to go in but the judge wasn't there yet so I just walked him around the outside which helped me as he got to have a good look at everything first.
Judge arrived and we did our test. I thought it was rubbish and I went slightly wrong but didn't realise till I watched some of the others later. I was supposed to go HBF free walk on a long rein but I went HXF. I didn't get beeped though and only had a couple knocked off.
Put Gyp away and had some food then went to look at the sheets. Started to read mine and I was told I wasn't allowed to look at them, they were sitting unattended on the side. When I asked why they said I'm not allowed to see them until they are all in marked and the places done. But as I pointed out to them, I was the first horse in, they only have parking for 10 boxes so by me staying the next hour waiting for the class to finish I was hogging a parking space. She just said I would forfeit my rosette (if I got one) if I left now. It doesn't say anything about this in their rules.
So we had to wait around in the cold for an hour before
we could see our sheets. But I did get a nice pic of us, which neither of us look too fat in so that is a bonus.
When they had finally finished counting the scores I found out we didn't do as awful as I thought and ended up 4th with 61.8% the winner had 66.2%.
So we have qualified again for the championship next month I just need to remember the free walk is HBF this time.
Hopefully it won't be so bloody cold or so early next month.
