for any of you that suffer with nervous dogs when fireworks are about......i tried zylkene last night when our village fireworks display started. my lurcher was her usual stressed self, panting, crying, pacing...i gave her one capsule of zylkene and although the fireworks were still going she calmed down within 20 mins and stopped crying and panting. she still paced a couple of times when a really loud one went off but mostly slept...so fingers crossed i hope i have found a solution and will try again on tuesday....i got it online from viovet. hope this helps someone..

thanks for that...i ve got a good supply for now , but will remember when i run out.... she gets so very stressed it drives me mad as well. even though i have no money(horse costing me loads as cushings!!) i thought it was worth trying.... i have acp from the vet but that makes her a bit wobbly and i worry that she may fall down the stairs and the zylkene doesnt seem to have this effect.

Do you know I think my dog is weird. I actually feel like I am in the middle of a warzone at the minute the amount of 'bombs' going off outside. Does my dog care? nope! Although one particularly loud one just now did wake her from her slumber. I think she found that more of an irritation than anything though!

I've got one that gets hugely stressed and one that doesn't care at all, not even about the other dog getting stressed.

Adaptil collars and diffusers work on the same principle as Zylkene (which is not a sedative btw) and may help dogs that benefit from Zylkene. It doesn't work with all stressy dogs, but it works for a lot of them and in these cases there is a marked difference in stress levels and stressy behaviour (chewing, soiling, resource guarding).

i am already using an adaptil collar and she started wearing it a week before the fireworks were expected and it doesnt seem to make much difference which is why i tried zylkene, perhaps its the combination of both which has helped her..just hope it works tomorrow!!!!

Are Johnson's Calmeze for dogs or humans? A friend has an extremely stressy dog who knocked her over during the weekend's fireworks, she needs something for him!

I took my stressy poodle to his first grooming comp - I used Zylkene and DAP spray and he was great on it. My big worry with him is that sometimes in stressful situations he would stop peeing and as we were away for two nights, I couldn't afford to have him that stressed out. Anyway, he was cool as a cuke.

He's been back on the combination for fireworks - last year he was a trembling mess. Much better this year.

Ive tried most things, adaptil, thundershirt, crate, the only thing that sort of works is diazepam from the vets. Poor dog really suffers this time of year but can become a danger to herself so have had to get something from the vets. Mostly it will send her to sleep which has got to be better than throwing herself around my house like a lunatic.

I've a JRT who gets VERY upset with fireworks: last year I thought she was going to have a heart attack. This year I got some Xanax from my vet, and now, although the fireworks are still noisy out there, she has stopped panting, drooling and shaking and is virtually asleep. Vet charged me less then £1.50 for 10. I'm so relieved!

quick update...............had a load of fireworks in my village tonight and my dog has gone to sleep!!!!!!!!! yippee!!!!!! looks like combi of dap collar and zylkene is the answer for mine....what a relief....
