Further to my previous post, if my horse was to have a condition like stringhalt what woudl be the best way to manage the condition. She is hacked and lightly schooled at the moment. Although, I have only seen these symptoms appear this morning after a very very heavy downfall of rain.

Should she be stabled, or kept out ? She has never been rugged before so shoudl I start rugging her to protect her from the rain?

Thanks for any advice

We used to have a horse in the riding school with stringhalt, it didn't affect his performance at all and he lived to a ripe old age.
The only problem was having him shod, it used to take the farrier quite a bit longer then doing the others. I guess it depends on the severity?
Where abouts in France are you? I'm this side of the channel too!

Apparently feeding magnesium can reduce the effects of early stringhalt. Also toxins in the soil and grass can cause it so if you could move fields for a few weeks you may see improvement.

Longshot but have you checked her feet for any lesions??

I did this morning, and her feet were fine. However this afternoon she seems fed up with me keep trying to touch her legs. She is threatening to kick when I touch her back legs, so don't want to push it.

Thats interesting, will look into getting magnesium. I also read about changing fields due toxins, but it seems odd as she has been in this field since July. Have shut off one of the fields now and was due to move her at the end of next week so may just bring that forward.

Forgot to say,the horse in question didn't get any special supplements ( riding school horse so always on a tight budget.... not mine I hasten to add!), and seemed quite happy. Was there at least 10 years and his condition always stayed the same, even in his advancing years...
