Hello all!! its been ages since I have posted on here and was just after a bit of advise. My older horse who is 15 this year has stringhalt he also had a tear to his DDFT (rear left) 2 years ago-he is now sound from that which is great, but i dont know if that his stinghalt is getting worse. he has a funky walk which he has always done which is not a problem, but I rode him in the school yesterday and his canter feels off behind on both reins?! trot felt fine but he felt like was twisting behind. He is not insured (virtually un insurable hahaha) but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with horses with stringhalt and does it get worse? he is almost just a hack now anyway and he lives at home so it is not an issue at all. But I was just wondering peoples thoughts?!

Stringhalt, from my limited experience, mostly stay reasonably consistent. But like most things I’m sure there are examples of improving or worsening. Most likely linked to what the underlying root cause is.

Stringhalt, from my direct experience, can complicate matters when trying to isolate non linked lameness’ in the same limb.

So I’d say in your case it could be either stringhalt worsening or another lameness, but given you are feeling it in canter under saddle I would err more towards lameness
