We have a little 11.2 Section A, he's fab in the school but very strong out in open spaces. He came with a grackle which we think is a bit too big for him. He's usually ridden in the (badly fitting!) grackle with a happymouth bit.

We also have a pelham and a wilkie for him, but just the grackle bridle. I'd like to get a new slightly smaller bridle and I am just floundering with all the possibilities. My daughter is nervous although trusts him in the school and I'd like to think she could stop him easily.

What do you use?

What exactly does he do out hacking? And with it being a child's pony do you mind me asking how well daughter rides, wilkies are pretty harsh in my view so wouldn't like to recommend one unless 100% confident the child has a fully independent seat & light hands. Ditto a pelham with two reins. Usually for anything that gets a bit full of it out hacking I'd just say lots of transistions etc to keep them occupied, & if needed something (depending on what horse does) with two reins so it is mainly ridden on a snaffle with second rein just for emergencies.

Got any roundings for the pelham? If so take the grackle off the bridle and stick the pelham in and see how he behaves.

Small pony, small novice jockey is not going to cope with anything fancy by way of schooling, she just needs to be more in control.

It might be worth seeing if he's been taught that a good old pull on the neckstrap means slow down, if not you could try getting your daughter to teach him that in the school, with your help.
