I have an 18 year old Arab gelding, endurance horse for 7 years before he came to me and was being ridden in a curb bit. tried many variations of bit at the mo in pelham but he just puts his head to chest and goes!! We recently got chased flat out by an irate farmer in his van with his hand on the hooter all the way along a footpath, since then he has been worse. if I try to school him in, wearing a milder bit he just throws his head in the air and gets stressy. His previous owner said he used to scour for the first couple of hours when LD and I got him cos he 'wouldn't go anymore'... he is a lovely boy , neck reins and CAN be ridden on the buckle but also CAN take off! He will bounce with excitment and go sideways but I NEVER let him canter when he is like this..
advice please!!!
Well if you find an answer let me know. He sounds like my oldie who I never managed to sort out and he's 35 now. I just got used to disappearing into the distance occasionally.
By the way old age does slow them down a bit, mine did at about 33
