Horse has always had a fairly prominent vein/artery in her near fore after a pretty old SDFT injury a few years ago. She is on week 6 of walking after a 20% strain of her check ligament at the beginning of April. She was scanned before we started walking and it all was fine.
I have noticed this week that the vein/artery is very prominent and has a pulse to it. I know it is very hot which might explain why whatever the squishy thing is, vein or artery, would stand out more on the skin but not sure why the pulse is there. Admittedly, I've never really felt for a pulse before except in the winter when it was very cold and I couldn't feel one. The injury site is on the outside of the leg and doesn't seem to have changed shape or puffed up at all. It does feel like there is a bit of swelling under the vein/artery but not sure whether that is just the vein if that makes sense. The vet said that the vein/artery would always be enlarged after her previous injury and it was nothing to worry about. Didn't mention a pulse though!!
I will ring vet and see what he says but wondered if anyone had any thoughts. She is sound and def. not laminitic so I can only assume she's tweaked the ligament again or I've just been incredibly vacant and not felt the pulse before!! Must be an artery as its got a pulse!!
