hi my gelding on loan for about 7 months or so now, struggles to get the correct canter lead on the right rein. he's totally fine on the left and gets it very easily and smoothly. when i ask for canter on the right rein though, he very rarely gets it first time. i put my outside leg behind the girth, sit deep and he goes straight into canter, but never on the correct lead. also when he does get the correct lead he feels very unbalanced and like he is rushing.

any advice? he does this on the lunge too but finds it easier to correct himself there. is there anything i can do?

First horse we bought had a similar problem. he was only 5 at the time, turns out he had a slight problem with his hips/back form falling over before we got him, even though there was no obvious discomfort. We had the back lady out and he was pretty much fine afterwards. Helped his jumping as well as he used to knock all the poles with his back feet due to the problem.
Would try all usual things first though; like transitions over a pole, or on a circle, bend him to the outside. Every horse is different :)
