Hi guys, some advice plz.......i have been lucky enough to buy 7 acres of land about a 5 min drive away from where i live. This was 18 months ago. Since then, i have got plannin permission for 6 stables, tack room and feed room. In the last 2 months 3 stables have been totally finished, leaving us totally broke!!
I own a welsh sec B mare which i put in foal, but unfortunately lost and a rather loopy youngster which has been broken ova the winter and has gone ova to my mums to be turned away and keep her old mare company!! So, I have a little loan companion pony to keep my mare company.
Anyhow, I really find myself struggling with it all, for little gain to be honest!! I have 2 kids (13 and 2) and a very suppotive OH who is having to work away soon.. What with field, time and house management I can feel myself cracking and selling the lot!! Perhaps i should sell welsh B, Loopy youngster and all land?? Buy one horse and put in livery??

I can sympathise! My Mum and I jointly own our land. I work full time, and Mum is partially retired, but still works 3 days per week. We have 2 horses (one each) and the land management and responsibility really takes it out of you. We can't go away to family events for long as one of us needs to look after the boys, and we don't like to ask others to step in for too long.

That being said, I do love the fact that it is our own space, we can do what we like, when we like, with nobody watching or criticising, and we can turn out all year round.

I would think that I would struggle if Mum decided to give it up as the support we give each other is invaluable. On the whole, the pros outweigh the cons. It just depends on if stress of it is outweighing the enjoyment. If you are at the stage where this is the case, and you don't see it changing, then maybe you do need to re-think your situation. Only you will know! Good luck with whatever you decide!

I think having someone else ther may help me i must admit.... I just feel like the whole project ie land and stables are unfinished and would someone really want to be there if its a building site?
I do have 2 fields, 1 of which (4 acres) i dont use...next door farmers cows are currently in there chomping!! The only drawback is that you have to pass through my field to access the stables as we are so broke i haven't been able to post and rail a walkway through it!!

Put that a bit wrong perhaps, but if one horse is £40 per x amount everyone around here douples it per horse, so £40 a month would be £80, regardless , does not matter that there is no more grazing
