can u try them both? you should choose the one that fits tilly best. if they are on ebay or something could you stretch to both and then resell the other ?:D

I can pick the barnsby up tomorrow try it and if it fits great, the stubben is on e-bay, cant afford both, Iv just heard so much about the stubben they are supposed to be fantastic. the lady on e bay has said she will accept my offer.
these are the times when more experience would come in handy.

its not a question of experience really cos you cant tell what fits til its on ur horse! do you have someone to fit for you?

Some people may indeed rave about Stubben but it is down to the individual horse and rider - they tend to fit curvier backed horses though some models are slightly flatter, older ones can be very hard (as can some new ones I think) and the gullets are very narrow at the back. I'm not a great fan, out of the two I'd recommend Barnsby. Again, best to work with a fitter.

I've had both for Hattie and the Barnsby was a better for me and my mare! I found the Stubben too hard in the seat and it was just an all round stiff saddle. I agree with the narrowing of the gullet at the back on some of the older ones too although I did have as Stubben Genesis and that had a wide gullet all the way down. It was a beautifully made saddle but my Barnsby Aurora is just divine. It fits Hattie better as the panels are flatter and fit her nice topline better and it's a comfier saddle to ride in. The Stubben was 18" and so is my Barnsby but the Stubben felt HUGE like I was swimming in it.

I have a Stubben GP now and did have close contact and jumping Stubbens in the past. They are well made and last forever unlike a lot of the modern brands. Definitely recommend them. Whatever saddle yuou buy, make sure it fits your horse.

/\ /\ This.

Stubbens will only fit certain shaped horses (I know as my mare was one of them and so I bought a new one for her, which I loved, but now she's gone I doubt it will fit anything else I own any time soon).

Get a qualified and recommended saddler to help you :)

Both are well made and will hold their value - however this thread is pointless without more info on you, the horse, the saddles. Buying any make of saddle in the wrong size or style is pointless.

Do you know what model of saddle each is? What size and width? What do you want to do in it? What size saddle do you need? What size, bed and condition are your horse?

I have had both makes, I loved my stubbens but agree that the older ones are not as good for the horse as the - hence why it would be good to know what model you're looking at.

Out of the two *I* personally prefer barnsby, however like the others have pointed out, it very much depends on the horse and rider.

I love kieffers, however they're similar in fitting to a stubben and don't fit my table backed horse.
