Stubben - poor quality?

My recently-purchased Stubben CTD bridle has broken. Where the noseband headpiece straps fit into the noseband, one side the stitching and part of the noseband (under 3 of the stitches) has broken. (I was doing up the noseband and the horse flinched from a fly - snap!)

My previous Stubben bridle survived 9 years of 4-day-a-week use in all weathers and is as tough now as when bought, just looks weary and scratched, hence buying a new one.

The new bridle seemed fairly poor in quality by comparison even before the noseband strap came unstitched. I would expect more from a £120 bridle.

Has anyone got contact details for Stubben UK please? I tried their website this morning but the numbers given (below) are both "out of service" and the email is "unknown".

Stubben UK. Tel: 01536 744554. 01536 747547. Email:sales@stubbenuk.co.uk

Can you take it back to the seller? That would be my first port of call, they can send it back for examination I would imagine

Also is there a possibility it could be a fake?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that Stubben now have two ranges. CTD is their lower range and the quality really isn't great. However, it is normally quite a lot cheaper but some sellers rely on the the fact that the stubben brand will sell it and people won't realise that there are two ranges and put it on at the same prices as the stubben better range. I do still find the "proper" range very good but would always be very careful to make sure that I'm not buying CTD. Sorry this doesn't help much now and I might be wrong. As OP said I would send it back so they can have a look at it but sorry I can't help with how! Good luck, hope you manage to sort it.

Your contract is with the seller, not Stubben, so you need to contact them first for a resolution.

I believe Stubben UK have now closed & all business is being dealt with in Germany.

Henbug you're right CTD is the budget range. It's the same thing when people advertise a saddle as a Bates Wintec saddle - its a Wintec not a Bates!

Normal Stubben saddles are nearly 1.5k, CTD saddles are about half that cost, which should give you some idea of the quality. I know you bought a bridle OP but the principle is the same. It does sound as though it may have broken too quickly, perhaps it had faulty stitching?

That is my understanding.

You need to get in touch with the seller, not the manufacturer.

i had a top of the range stubben bridle straight from stubben direct so i know it wasnt a fake, when i opened the packaging i was really dissapointed, the metal logo on the browband was crap, the blue ink colour wasnt even in the indent that it was supposed to be, it had spilled over the edges, obviously machine done and whilst the leather looked good, after a few uses the noseband and throatlasg bits had frayed and gone all fluffy like th cheap indian leather does. Wont bother with stubben again, now have a lovely equipe bridle, much better quality and actually hand made!

Agree dont know if its the same but they do cheaper sets for shows , events stand sales and the quality difference is appreciable.

melony73,

The same happened to me all freyed around the edges!! I was not impressed at all. It has improved with lots of leather care but not what you expect from a more expensive make
