I have just got one as recommended to a slightly girthy cob. It is lovely and soft, and initially quite wide fitting, but after an hours riding this morning it looked very reminiscent of those skinny nylon girths I remember from the 1970's. Is this how they go when you've ridden, or is it down to the fact I use a breast girth as well?

Mine does not do that not does my friends. I think it's being caused by the breast girth. Why do you need the breast girth?

He's back in work getting fit for hunting, but still a bit rotund. This morning we cantered up hill and without the breast girt, the saddle would have gone back. I guess a hunting breast plate will have to come out of storage..

I've hunted my cob in a Stubben string girth for endless seasons and never had that. I use a breastplate though so looks as if it is the breast girth that's the culprit. Great girths BTW.

Mine never did that and i used it with a 5 point breastplate for jumping and even when we had a rotational fall it didnt bunch up.

Mine also does not bunch up like that, but it is also very separated at the top as it is fastened to the first and forth girth strap.

So I'll first try the breast girth on the front split of the girth, and if that doesn't work it will have to be the hunting breastplate, although I admit I prefer the action of the breast girth in holding the saddle in place on hills.
I only have three girth straps on saddle, so not easy to space it out any more.

what is your horse's conformation? Mine did that to one as he has a forwards girth groove and so his elbows made it bunch up.

I wouldn't have said he had a very forward girth grove. He's 15hh Irish cob.I'll give it a go tomorrow , just hoping its comfortable for him as I've been told they do really suit some horses.

Mine did it too, without a breast girth for the above reason. It just didn't suit my mare despite many recommendations for horses with forward girth grooves.
