As fun as this time of year is with stubble fields, just a note to say PLEASE make sure you have land owners permission to ride around them before you decide to o for a gallop. Teenager has this morning decided to come up the side of one of our stubble fields, which is in the process of being re fenced. Her TB got horribly tangled up in a wire fence which was lying on the floor and is now in a very bad way.
I manage to stick to the bits I am allowed in, so it is very unfair when someone else comes for a free-for-all and ends up putting their horse is such a way.
When the fields are in this state a lot of farmers use this time to re fence/correct drainage problems which often means unseen trenches and rogue wire on the ground. More for the horses safety as well as liability of the farmer please ask before hand- you really never know what is lurking in the headlands.
Also a little common sense- someone went for a gallop in OH's wheat field whilst they were combining, which caused the horse to spook and rider fall off. As well as the dangers to YOU and YOUR horse please do consider that anything that happens to you whilst on someone else's land results in them being liable, which may compromise how accomodating they are to you.
