Hiya,
I have an ex-laminitic who even in her riding school days of being ridden 4 times a day and fed a good diet still had this solid cresty neck. Is there any way of getting rid of it or is that just her for life.
I've started adding a bit of Mag-ox to her feed (which is only ad-lib hay, anti-lam balancer and hi-fi lite) will this help over time or am i just stuck with a horse with a cresty neck. I don't mind, I'm not someone who cares about the cosmetics, I just want her to be happy and healthy.
Many thanks

Have you had her tested for Cushings? Mine had been cresty for a couple of years, then developed a tail head fat pad. First ACTH test came back very low but we decided to do a pergolide test just in case, and then he got footy (again). Last ACTH test, on 1mg Prascend, was 28, goodness knows what it would have been like without, but shortly after he was crippled and almost foundered. Strict diet of 1.5% dry matter/bodyweight including soaked hay plus Prascend for 6 weeks and his crest (and fat pad) have gone.
A cresty neck isn't something I would ignore in future - what are her shoulders and quarters like? I gather there is now a feeling that most laminitis is connected to metabolic problems, rather than just straightforward obesity, and TBH I have known morbidly obese cobs who never have had foot problems

Yes she has EMS and Cushibgs which is being managed and she hasn't had a further laminitis bout for quite a number of years. She is absolutely great weight wise everywhere else and even coming out of last winter when she lost a lot of condition she still had this solid cresty neck.
