I have scrubbed and scrubbed my grey (practically white) ponies hocks and legs using:

carr & day martin super stain remover spray,
gallop stain remover shampoo,
gallop grey horse shampoo,
green fairy liquid,
johnsons baby wash,
and even a vanish soap bar!

but her yellow stains refuse to budge! Any ideas on how I can wash them off?

Em, think if you search on here you'll find plenty of stuff in similar vein; lots of people with traddie cobs etc with white feathers which are impossible to keep clean!!!

I think I read something on here also about Skin So Soft (get from Avon, they've got a website). They've got a range of stuff and I think the shower/bath stuff is good for washing horse with!!! (plus the "Blue" coloured containers/range keeps midges away).

Personally I'd be wary of using stuff like Green Fairy Liquid as it strips the coat of naturally-occurring grease and oils and you could end up with a problem.

I've always used the Lynne Russell Stain Remover on my boy; just spray on and wash off! Never fails. Simples. Also if going to a show or whatever I just bung a pack of Johnsons Baby wipes in my grooming bag, fab for emergency poo stains.

Someone told me the other day that there's a difference between poo stains and urine stains - logical, but I'd never thought of it.

Poo stains are vegetable based, therefore should come off with one wash of any shampoo.

Urine stains are chemical based, therefore they don't break down with one use of shampoo - you need to wash them on a daily basis and they will reduce over time.

The Lynn Russell stain remover shampoo is the only one which budges urine stains, I read the bottles on every "magic" shampoo at my local tackshop the other day (sad) and it's the only one which mentions it! They also have a chalk based spray which you can use for a quick solution, plus chalk itself still works.

Hope that helps.

Put some hot water in a bucket, add some hair conditioner and get a towel, the water needs to be as hot as you can stand, just dip it in the water and wipe the stain it should come off no problem

A second for cowboy magic! And a good purple shampoo, none of that gallop nonsense. Get a good human purple shampoo

ETA - scrubbing the hocks with the tail when the shampoo is still in acts as a good scrubbing device i find!

You need to get moisture into the hair, if the hair is dry nothing will move it. Most of the stuff you have tried is quite harsh on the hair - try washing your own hair in baby shampoo or fairy? Try a moisturising shampoo then conditioner - plenty of it, its the only way we find to get the hair clean and prevent the stains happening again.

I've got some stuff that is used for Afro hair, apparently jennifer aniston uses it?? But the great thing is you can leave the conditioner in and not wash off (can look a little greasy) its called mane 'n tail - comes in a white container with a blue cap - would swear by it, if my husband didn't use it all in the shower lol! Smells lovely and is meant for horse or human! http://www.jinnysmall.com/mane-n-tail-deep-moisturizing-conditioner-355ml-1316.html
