Hi - I was wondering if anyone knew of any studs in Hampshire (so far my searches have come up with meon valley, landford common and was recommended to try trickledown (can't find website?!) and highclere?

I'm a first year vet student with alot of horse experience looking for a 2 week stud placement - I live in hampshire but am up in Nottingham during term time so would be looking for a placement nearer home!

Thank

Hiya - Catherston is really close to me i forgot about that one! I tried Littleton Stud but he said that they were not having a stallion standing at stud in 2008 and many of their mares were foaled elsewhere next year.

I don't a tb/sports horse stud or anything else - just somewhere i can be useful and learn something!

Thanks xx

I worked at Trickledown years ago and it wasn't a stud, it specialised in yearling preparation. Top place to work, probably walked about 7,000 miles in the time I was there, fittening the yearlings for the sales.

Trickledown

My friend's parents own Trickledown, give them a call, they are LOVELY people-and that is one of the most important TB studs in the UK. They dont have stallions, just broodmares and yearlings I think?

Goodness, you could nearly shout to where I live!!

Try Pembers Hill, they're just the other side of Fair Oak in Mortimers Lane. They would welcome you with open arms, they always need help. My mare went to Carnaval Pleasure (C.Drum's son) to be covered and then went back this year to foal. Every time I visited (3 or 4 times a week) I used to get roped into helping in some way or another. Kevin and Annette are really nice.

Edited to say that they have stallions (their own and visiting), their own brood mares and umpteen visiting mares both for covering and foaling down.

If you're interested in seeing how natives do it - as it were - we breed shetlands, and while I'm not sure we can keep you busy for two weeks, as it's all very relaxed here, you would be more than welcome to come & assist/observe at foaling time/covering time. I have 6 shetlands & 1 welsh x andalusian foal due next year.
