Last time I was at an event and struggling to tap my stud holes, the competitor next door showed me her flat round stud tap and said it's a lot easier with it. My current one is the T-shaped one and it's quite long which is why I think I struggle to always get it in straight.

Great, I thought, I'll buy one of those. But I can't find any online - anyone know where i can get one?

Tiggas do them but he hasn't got any at the moment.

Also, while we're on the subject, are the rubber or compressed cotton wool stud bungs any good?

rubber bungs I hate them, used them once and then spent 10mins per hole removing them. Very glad I was taking them out night before event not on day as would have run out of time to stud up!

I use cotton wool (from a pack of cotton wool as far cheaper than buying the little premade ones ;) ) or even real sheeps wool if not got any cotton wool left. that can be a pain to get in though :p

My YM hasn't had any luck with the rubber and foam bungs, but has now started using the metal bungs.

You have to losen them off once a week, and be careful not to do too much road work otherwise they embed - but she now wouldn't use anything else.
They keep the threads in the stud holes perfect, and have made studding up much easier and less stress free (the air is no longer blue!!)

Sorry I can't be more specific about what type they are.

i'm aiming to get super studs as i'm so fed up with battling with normal ones!
interested to hear about the tap your talking about though....
i use cotton wool - i clean and tap the holes the night before :)

vawala?? http://www.frogpool.com/prodcat-1246.html or http://www.townfields.com/products.cfm?intCategoryID=72

i personally use supa studs and have never had to tap. i also use cotton cigarette filters to bung the holes I use 2 slim ones per hole (the normal ones are to thin), dipped in vaseline first and 'screwed in in the direction of the thread. they work a treat :D

Baileyhoss you're brilliant! And I checked Townfields too, don't know how I missed that. Frogpool was on the list, I was just getting fed up of trawling through site after site so thought i'd post in the meantime. That rubber one looks just the ticket - thanks!

I use supastuds too, but still find I have to tap? They're fine if my stud holes are fresh but after a couple of weeks I can't get them in without tapping first.
Will have a look at ciggie filters too - presume you get them at newsagents?

Santa and posie-honey, I use cotton wool too, just looking for something that will fill the holes better as when it's dry (like now) I find teeny stones still get in and it can take an age to pick out the cotton wool.

Will have a look at the metal ones thanks Trolt, but I do quite a lot of roadwork so might not be the best.

i never have a problem with stones getting in but then I do pack it in tight! I often get a thin layer of mud on top but as I use a farriers nail to clear the holes i very quickly get to the cotton wool and it takes all of 10 seconds to remove!

You can also spray the cotton wool with WD40 before putting it in especially if not using the holes for a few weeks as it protects the thread but I always forget to do it myself :p :D
