Hi all.

I have a 9 month cob foal who is very stumbly. I dont know whether its because hes so young and hasnt got his balance fully yet but I just thought Id ask for some advice. He walks fine but every now and then he stumbles and nearly falls over. Is this because hes young? He also mainly does it after hes been in his field (which is on a hill so he gets lots of exercise) so could it be that hes tired? He doesnt pick his feet up yet as he cant balance on 3 legs. Im pretty sure he wasnt looked after too well before I got his so no-one has taken the time to pick up his feeg and lived out all the time so hes only used to walking on grass. If anyone has any advice it would be a massive help.

Thanks in advance xx

As AA says, he needs his feet to have some professional care, they are likely to be too long and may be the reason he is tripping, he should be able to balance on 3 legs but again it may be best to get a farrier to deal with him at this stage.

A foal is able to function pretty well within hours of birth, they can get up and canter around so his age is nothing to do with whatever the problem is now. A vet check would be a good idea just to make sure nothing else is going on to cause problems.
