So I've been up all night with my brood mare who colicked last night. Bit brusque in posts I'm afraid.

However, same mare, Sunday morning when off to show with good rufty tufty gelding (never got there) was on 3 legs, resting off hind on toe. Called the vet as horse couldn't move who said tendon or pedal bone. I raised my eyebrows and she corrected herself and said she didn't know (better).

Anyhow painkillers for 3 days (hence colic). Day 1 huge swelling around tendon sheath and whole cannon area. Day 2 (nothing - I mean stone cold nothing). Day 3 tried turn out and completely sound.

This is a TB mare who is truly pathetic but even so - from totally non weightbearing to sound in 3 days. I'm thinking it must have been a sting - anyone any other ideas?

Does sound like a bee sting, my sisters gelding got stung last summer, and nearly died, I mean she must be the unluckiest person going to have a horse that is allergic to bee stings, he was in anaflactic shock!!! At least yours wasn't allergic!!!

I think my lad has had a sting - Got up there on Tuesday night, as norm waddles up to the gate head on my shoulder and my arm goes round his neck for cuddles There was a lump the size of a small baking potato and rock hard just above the shoulder/ neck join.

Vet cam yesterday and gave him some antibiotics thinks he could have felt it swiveled his chin round and got a really nasty sting - it has cooled down this morning and come up to a bit of a head too but it was really nasty. Also commented that as he had only just had his jabs his system could have been a bit low to fight it - poor little might !

Bit of a relief for you though hey 3 day tendon injury !!!
