Stupid fall and bruising question

Sorry in advance, I am a bit of a hypochondriac! I fell off yesterday when out showjumping and landed flat on my back. My lower back/bottom took the brunt of the fall. I have landed on this part before and have had a bruised, sore cocix for a couple of weeks afterwards making sitting down awkward and uncomfortable. However, this seems to be fractionally above that point but trying to get to sleep last night was not easy.

Basically, I was really surprised to see the area was bruising up black already within 24 hours. Although it's felt badly bruised in the past it's never actually shown in the skin (again, making me feel like I was making a big fuss about nothing). Has anyone else ended up with a bruised buttock before? How did you treat it? There must be some healing rub on the market. Ibuprofen doesn't touch it. The opposite buttock has a curious numb spot like someone has injected it with anaesthetic. More pinot grigio for anyone with helpful advice or similar situations.
PS. I am restraining myself from taking a picture of my own butt!xxx

I'm currently trying alcohol and crisps. The vino is working quite nicely but I would have preferred chocolate to crisps and my butt hurts too much to walk to the shop!

Ouch! I had a similar accident when I fell of a 17.2hh doing flat work...
I landed on my back and I had very fast bruising similar to you... I went to hospital the next day and I had bad bruising to my pelvis and both hips and i got something called bursitis in my hips too..as well as breaking my arm and elbow  did it properly!

I would get it checked out, the dr's could give you some strong painkillers I had tramadol wonderful stuff :D
It took me about 6 weeks to get over it and occasionally my hip still plays up now.

Try Arnica from Boots cream and tablets it will bring out the bruising and speed up process.

I would go to the quack if you are still in great pain tomorrow as you may have cracked something.

I also fell from a 17.2hh, it really is a long way down. We had a difference of opinion on direction, I was aiming round the corner to the next fence and he was heading back to the tunnel and the collecting ring!
Will pop to Boots tomorrow lunchtime for Arnica cream and see if I can get into the doctors after work. Thanks guys.xx

Haha, that made me laugh :D - but honestly, take care of yourself, a bad bruise can turn into cellulitis, make sure you don't feel feverish and don't shrug a visit to the Doc off. I nearly split my difference once by walking over my hay pile and finding a gap that only Olga Corbett would be able to navigate .... I laugh about it now but I was dragging a leg for a week :eek:

It's also a surprising distance length ways too if you flew between his ears ( sort of rotating from the saddle to land on the ground bum first?) How frozen was your ground? There's a goodly amount of 1/2MVsquared going on in that scenario even if you are just a wee slip of a girl! In fact, I don't like the numb bit on your behind - it's far more comforting when it all hurts! Hurt means it's getting better - usually. Get yourself checked out! Do not put it off.

I fell of my big lad last week and within 2 days had a huuuuge bruise on my bum. Made sleeping very difficult, even getting on and off the bed was a pain. Its clearing up now though, and the pain decreases every day. :)

I also treated it with wine and snacks :p works! :D Just doesnt help with the diet though...

Thanks all,
It's strangely reassuring to hear other peoples woes. I've had my lad since April and this was my first spill off him. I remember lying there thinking Ow and the jump judges and first aid lady came running up. I said I was fine but wanted to lay there a couple of minutes to see what hurt! Pretty sure there's some whiplash going on there too.
This sounds terribly crass but I'm not looking forward to having a poo. Those muscles are definitely feeling fragile!xxx

Yes, may be a little too much info - butt ho,ho) I do sympathise. Once upon a time, through my own stupidity, I let a rather large lump of steel beam crash down on my bum from about the same height as your horse - the only reason that I am able to type this now is the fact that it rolled one end down a wall to slow it down a little and also bounced on a peice of timber 4" thick - now, my bum ( even though reasonably trim) is a lot thicker than 4" - so I'll leave you to imagine the damage but let's just say that my visits to the little room were rather technicolour affairs with language to match!

Ahh I did the exact same thing 5 weeks ago this Thursday (hence the reason im off Saturday to buy my 1st Body protector)

Horse I was on bolted at a fox (we were riding in the inside arena) fox made a weird noise outside - I got thrown off, landed ribs first, bounced half somersalted, went head first into the arena wall and finally landed bum first onto the floor, heard something go click (in my chest), but it was my bottom that hurt the most when I went to get up - over the next few days the bruising came out - not only did it come out...but it travelled to places I hadn't actually hurt,
I lived on painkillers and Witch Hazel (swear by that stuff).
That helped, the worst thing for me though was when I sat in a car for 3 weeks after - every jolt or when the car/bus braked - it was agony - sitting down was interesting too - I literally had to tease my self, gritting my teeth whilst doing so into position!
Very painful memories...but im on the mend
